Letters of Recommendation

Required letters: 3 minimum , 5 maximum

Committee letters: Accepted

Vanderbilt understands that everyone's journey to medical school is different; therefore, we do not have any requirements for letters. If your school offers an advisor or committee letter, we will expect to receive a letter from that service. We support the movement for letters to cover the competencies in the AAMC Guidelines ( https://students-residents.aamc.org/system/files/2023-11/23-144_Guidelines_for_Writing_a_Letter_of_Evaluation_One_Pager_Update_R1-1.pdf ) and encourage applicants to solicit letters from evaluators who can address competencies. If you have advanced degrees or at least one year of postgraduate full-time employment, it is advisable to ask your supervisor at work or a member of the graduate faculty to send a letter of recommendation. We recommend a letter from your principle investigator, if you have done research. Vanderbilt does not require a letter from a medical professional.
